Preparedness. Capability. Direction.

Find Your Bearing.

Grey Compass provides practical, experience-driven training designed to help ordinary people become safer, more capable, and better prepared when conditions are uncertain.

From the range to the ridgeline: build confidence, develop competence, and stay prepared.

Why Grey Compass

When Conditions Change, Capability Matters.

Preparedness is more than owning equipment. It is the ability to remain calm, think clearly, and use the skills available to you when circumstances become difficult, unfamiliar, or unpredictable.

Learn the fundamentals. Build dependable skills. Know your direction.

Grey Compass was created to provide grounded, practical education in firearms safety, marksmanship, emergency medical fundamentals, wilderness preparedness, and personal resilience.

Our training is built for responsible citizens seeking real capability—not intimidation, theatrics, or a false sense of expertise.

Our Standards

The Grey Compass Approach

01

Safety Before Speed

Safety is not treated as a single lesson or a list of rules to memorize. It is reinforced throughout every course and incorporated into every skill.

02

Fundamentals Before Complexity

Grey Compass emphasizes repeatable fundamentals before introducing greater speed, difficulty, or complexity.

03

Practical Skills

Training should have value beyond the classroom. Our curriculum focuses on skills that can be understood, practiced, and applied.

04

Calm Under Pressure

Students learn to assess the situation, identify priorities, and make deliberate decisions rather than allowing stress to dictate their actions.

05

Continuous Development

No single course creates mastery. Each phase is designed to strengthen the foundation established before it.

Our Philosophy

Training Without the Theater.

Grey Compass is not built around fear, ego, or the appearance of capability. Effective training should be disciplined without being intimidating, challenging without being reckless, and serious without losing sight of the individual student.

You do not need prior experience.
You do not need expensive equipment.
You do not need to prove that you belong.
You need a willingness to learn and improve.
Future Development

From the Range to the Ridgeline.

Preparedness does not exist in isolated categories. Firearms safety, medical awareness, wilderness knowledge, physical readiness, sound judgment, and personal resilience all contribute to capability.

Grey Compass is being developed as a progressive curriculum that will expand beyond introductory firearms education.

Grey Compass

Built From Experience

Preparedness Becomes Real When the Plan Disappears.

I’m Jaycob Kelsey. My understanding of preparedness was shaped by two experiences that permanently changed how I view capability, uncertainty, and personal responsibility.

One was an extended wilderness survival experience in the mountains of North Georgia. The other was a defensive shooting encounter.

Those experiences were very different, but both reinforced the same lesson: equipment matters—but judgment, preparation, adaptability, and the ability to remain functional under stress matter more.

Grey Compass was created to turn those lessons into practical education for people who want to become safer, more confident, and more capable.

Find your bearing. Build your capability. Keep moving forward.
